OUR DRINKS

REAL ALES AND LAGERS
In 1998, when we first opened The Duke of Cambridge there was only one organic draft ale available in the UK and no draft lagers. We persuaded two breweries in London to become certified and brew a range of beers and lagers for us.

Pitfield Brewery created the first London organic draft bitter – ‘SB'’, brewed exclusively for our pub. They are now certified by the Soil Association and brew a range of organic ales and these include the first organic stout in the country.

Freedom Brewery was certified by the Soil Association and created (for the Duke) the first organic draft lager available in the UK, it now sells at many bars around Britain.

St Peters brewery, after visiting the pub, decided to brew a Best Bitter that was certified by the Soil Association. It has been an extremely popular addition to their range.

There are now so many organically certified beers in the UK, Rogers Proxt the acclaimed beer writer, dedicated an entire book to the subject, with a big feature on the pub of course!

We serve four real ales, two lagers and a cider on draft and a selection of bottled beers and ciders. All our ales and lagers are brewed in or very close to London apart from Freedom which is brewed in Germany but transported by train.

SPIRITS
Like beers, when The Duke of Cambridge first opened, organic spirits were also few and far between, mixers were even harder to come by. We survived the first year without tonic water, so we invented vodka and plum juice. We now have a range of organic spirits but are still cannot source an organic Tequila and sadly, the briefly available range of organic mixers is no longer around, but you must try vodka and plum which has become our signature drink next time you pop by!

NON-ALCOHOLIC
These include the delicious hot and spicy ginger ale, traditional lemonade, elderflower bubbly, Kicking cola and plum, pear, apple and ginger juice among many others. We also serve cafe mocca pots of coffee with hot or cold milk (or soya) at your table so can mix as you wish. All the coffee and teas are organic and fair trade.

WINE LIST
The wine list has a choice of over forty wines. We choose to constantly source and represent small independent winemakers who work closely (as often as possible bio dynamically) with indigenous grape varieties and soil types to produce wines that truly reflect the style of the region from which they come. The list includes a selection of wines from Europe exploring a range of grape varieties and wine making techniques.

While researching the effects of transporting wines from the new world on the environment, we stocked only European wines. This policy has changed as we have discovered that wines tend to be driven from Europe so cause more pollution per bottle than wines shipped from the new world. Buying again from the New World has the added bonus of being able to support fairly-traded wines and economies in need of support such as South Africa.

The wine list is extensive and classic in style and is keenly matched to the menu with a range of aperitifs, sparkling wines and champagnes, half bottles, red, white and dessert wines and some exciting wines specials; offering something for everyone from the novice to the connoisseur. There are over twelve different wines available by the glass.
