OUR SUPPLIERS AND LINKS TO USEFUL ORGANISATIONS
The Duke of Cambridge sources around 80% of its fresh produce from the Home Counties, and the rest from as close as possible to the South of England.
"Purchasing has power, join the consumer revolution." Geetie Singh - 2003
We get high quality organic meat, fish, fruit and veg from the small, independent producers listed below, and pride ourselves on our close working relationships with them. We never, ever buy anything from multinationals or big brands, and won’t purchase anything that has been air freighted. Here are a few of our key suppliers:
Susan Mayman, Owner of the Freedom Brewery, London
Supplying Duke of Cambridge with organic lager since 1998 (www.freedombeer.com). Suasan says: “The pub has such a good reputation and credentials, so it’s great for our business to have its beer sold there. We supply other pubs and restaurants but nowhere has the same ethical drive that matches the Duke of Cambridge.”
Ben Woodcraft, Ben’s Fish, Essex
Supplying Duke of Cambridge with non-endangered wild sea fish and organic farmed fish since 2002 (www.bensfishmersea.co.uk). Ben says: “We work closely with the Duke of Cambridge chefs and fish seasonality charts – it’s very complex and we adhere to strict fish quotas and criteria. I agree with the pub’s business ethics. Being organic means a lot of extra paperwork – it’s much easier to run an ordinary gastropub. The pub is in my top ten of regular customers!”
Graham Hughes, Eostre Organics, East Anglia
Supplying Duke of Cambridge with organic vegetables since January 2008
(www.eostreorganics.co.uk). Graham says: “Geetie is very strict about our produce being grown locally, which is unusual for someone in the restaurant trade. It’s serious commitment.”
Justin Howard-Tripp, Gill Wing Farm, East Sussex
Supplying Duke of Cambridge with organic vegetables, chicken, game and mutton since 2006 (www.gillwing.co.uk). Justin says: “Their menu is flexible according to what is available. If produce doesn’t look perfect the chefs are understanding – they like the rustic look!”
Martin Kemp, Pitfield Brewery, Essex
Supplying Duke of Cambridge with real ales since 1998 (www.pitfieldbeershop.co.uk)
Martin says: “The pub is friendly – I can speak to Geetie directly; it’s not a faceless organisation, and I know her personally.”
